'I wrote a review of this a while ago, but for some reason it posted as an anonymously, and I finally decided to go back and update, making sure it posted on my name.Most of the reviews here suggest that this is a good CD to buy if you are looking to get into The Doors but don't want to buy the individual albums. The Doors 1967 albums had raised expectations so high that their third effort was greeted as a major disappointment.With a few exceptions, the material was much mellower, and while this yielded some fine melodic ballad rock in 'Love Street,' 'Wintertime Love,' 'Summers Almost Gone,' and 'Yes, the River Knows,' there was no denying that the songwriting was not as impressive as it had been on.

It has any song a beginner could possibly want, actually. The Best of the Doors, a 2-CD set has all these songs in their completely unedited glory. Also you are missing out on so many other great songs such as When the Music's Over, Five to One, Whiskey Bar, Spanish Caravan, Unkown Soldier, etc. Also, on Break On Thru, it seems like Jim is saying 'she get.she get' instead of what he actually says 'she gets high, she gets high'. YOU ARE TOTALLY MISSING OUT on what I believe to be one of the greatest songs ever. Now, if you have listened to this 'version' of the End, you may think 'Hey, this is pretty cool' and you will listen to it a couple times and thats it (that's what I did anyway).

It seemed to be over too fast, but luckily the six studio albums they recorded together are all remasterd and easy to maintain.The Doors remain probaly within the top 10 most influential rock bands in history. You get the gist of the popular side of The Doors, though to fully understand the band as they were, you will have to get the individual albums, which can be not as listener friendly as you would hope.The Doors were enjoying commercial success right up until the death of singer Jim Morrison. This IS a good place to START with The Doors. Light My Fire, Hello I Love You, Love Me Two Times, Break On Through, Touch Me, etc. No other musician at the time could of replaced any of the members in this band.You basically get all of their big hits here. Though most rock bands of the time had improvisation, such as guitar solos, The Doors each interacted with each other to deliver great improvisational solos.Some miss the point and call this band, Jim Morrison & The Doors, when it is really, a band as a whole.
